Laminate is what we recommend when the builder carpet has to go, the whole main level needs to change at once, and the budget is a real number rather than a wish. It buys a wood look at a price closer to carpet than to hardwood, and today's boards have almost nothing in common with the laminate that earned a bad name in the early 2000s.
