We pull a corner during the estimate and look. Refinishing runs $3.50 to $6 per square foot for sand, stain and two to three coats, which beats buying new wood.

We meter the slab for moisture and check it for flatness first, because basements in this part of St. Louis County are rarely flat, and we leave a proper expansion gap at every wall.
