Creve Coeur sits about ten minutes from our showroom on Weldon Parkway, so we are in this part of mid-county almost every week. Most of the housing here went up between the mid 1950s and the early 1980s: long brick-and-frame ranches on half-acre lots, split-levels, and two-storys set well back from Ladue Road, Conway Road and Old Bonhomme. Newer infill has filled a few gaps closer to Olive Boulevard. The floors under all of it tend to fall into the same few buckets, and we have worked on every one of them.
The one that surprises people most is oak. A large share of Creve Coeur ranches were laid with red or white oak strip flooring and then carpeted over by 1978. Pull a corner up in a bedroom off Spoede Road and it is often still there, still solid, still worth saving. Refinishing that floor usually costs less than replacing it and looks better than anything you can buy new. Where the oak is gone or was never there, we install hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, laminate and carpet.
Basements matter here too. Nearly every Creve Coeur house has one, plenty of them are finished, and a hard summer storm rolling over the 270 corridor can find a crack in any of them.
