Why LVP suits St. Charles houses
St. Charles sits on the Missouri, and the ground here has opinions. Homes north toward Elm Point and Boschertown run their sump pumps hard in spring. New Town was built low on the bottoms. Even the hillside subdivisions west of town get water in a lower level when a storm dumps four inches in an hour. The other driver is daily life. Winter in St. Charles means salt and slush off the driveway and into the mudroom, and a lot of houses have dogs going in and out to the yard. Products, wear layers and how to choose
The choice usually comes down to core type. Rigid core plank with an SPC center is dense, dimensionally stable and the right pick over concrete in New Town or any slab built home on the south side of St. Charles. WPC core is a little softer and warmer underfoot, which some homeowners prefer in a finished basement family room. Both are waterproof through the plank. The plank itself is waterproof and will not swell or cup. In a St. Charles basement that takes standing water, the floor can usually be dried and kept, though seams may need to be pulled up to dry the slab underneath. What does not survive is drywall, baseboard and pad. LVP is the most forgiving flooring choice for a lower level here, not a substitute for fixing drainage.
